Girls’ educational attainment in Pakistan lags behind the level of attainment of boys. This is seen in literacy levels and school enrolment figures, which reveal that large number of girls, have limited access to even basic schooling. The figures get even more alarming when we analyze the girls education at Secondary and Higher Secondary level.
Friends Pakistan is executing a program of supporting girl’s education at Secondary and Higher Secondary level keeping in loop the Elementary and Secondary Education Department KPK. In this program, Friends Pakistan is contributing in providing the opportunity of acquiring education to all those girls whose education was always at stake after the completion of primary level education following a community based approach. Under this approach, community based schools are established in far flung areas of KPK, where the school outreach girls have no opportunity to acquire education at Secondary and Higher secondary level. More than one thousand (1000) girls of the vulnerable areas of KP province have so far benefited from this program. Under this program, Friends Pakistan has contributed in term of establishing semi-permanent school building, provision of qualified teachers, school supplies, mobility support to students & teachers and capacity building of local community organizations to manage school’s affairs at local level.
