Women empowerment is an important and useful concept in the development of a community as it represents women as active agents rather than passive recipients of development policies. Women empowerment has a positive relation with the overall betterment of the society and family which gives women more respect, involvement in domestic affairs and household decision making, improved child well-being and increased resources.

Friends Pakistan focused on Women’s Organization as individualism and lack of collective efforts is the main cause of their vulnerability. The formation of women groups was encouraged in both rural and urban settings. The presence of “Women groups” associated with Friends Pakistan has extended to the thirteen (13) union councils of District Mansehra. Fifty (50) new women groups were established at both the urban and rural targeted areas in District Mansehra. Capacity building of women’s groups established both in the urban and rural target communities has been carried out to enable the women groups to meditate on their issues and framing strategies to address them at the local level. The capacity building sessions that have been conducted at different community locations include, Female education, Family Law, organization Management, reproductive health, women’s social and conjugal rights and role of women in development.

Friends Pakistan has conducted the events such as Didactic Plays, workshops and awareness Rallies for creating the awareness in the target communities on the women’s rights and the elimination of violence against women. In these events, the target community has been educated about the UN Convention on the elimination of violence against women in their local languages through the conduct of awareness Rallies for promoting the theme of elimination of violence against women, conduct of Didactic Plays for highlighting domestic violence against women and conduct of workshops on social and inheritance rights of women etc
